Onion seeds

Onions are a wonderful staple crop in our household.If you follow a few simple steps, you can harvest a large amount of high-quality onions from a small garden. Onions are such a versatile vegetable – they feature in so many recipes, so growing your own onions means you’ll always have them to hand. 

SOIL MIX COMPOSITION 

Mix 1 part of soil with 1 part of vermi compost, 1 part of Cocopeat and handful of neem cake powder. Neem cake is effective in the management of insects and pests. It also acts as a natural fertilizer with pesticide properties.

GROW BAGS REQUIRED

 

Use 24*9 or 24x12x12 Grow bag for good yielding.

SEASON TO SOW ONION

We can grow Onion in January-February, April-May-June, September-October.

SEED SOWING METHOD

Seeds should be sown at a depth of 0.25 inches. We should keep the seeds moist during germination. We can sow onion Seeds and transplant it.

SUN LIGHT REQUIREMENT

Place the grow bags in full sun that is Place them where it gets plenty of light throughout the day. onions prefer full sun, ample soil moisture, and fertile, well-drained garden soil. Onions will not grow in full shade. In partial shade onions will be smaller and the plant will be more susceptible to pests and disease so place in full sun. Onion need a minimum of three hours of direct sun.

WATER REQUIREMENT

Water the seeds regularly via air pressure sprayer as the seeds rely on a constant supply of water to go through the germination process, thereby producing a sprout. As the sprout could destroy and fall down due to watering with mugs or with hand it is best to use garden sprayer.

Water on a regular basis so that the potting mixture is always moist but never soaking. When your seeds outgrow their containers can be planted outside, they will not need nearly as much water to thrive. Keep soil moist, check daily and provide extra water during a heat wave.

HOW TO CARE ONION

When an onion seedling has three leaves, transplant to containers that are at least 4 inches (10 cm) deep.
Onion seedlings that are given plenty of vertical root space grow much more rapidly than those confined to shallower quarters.

After transplanting onions often shed the seedling leaf snip it off . Onion seedlings respond to transplanting by making strong upright growth.
